And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. -Genesis 9:8-13
Hello to Everyone!
The last three weeks have been a busy time for me with friends and family. There has been so much going on, that I could probably write several Blog entries. But today I will spare the actual details, and just give my thoughts on things that God is reminding me of.
If you're like me at all, many days at a time, things just seem to pile up in life without stopping. And always at the most inopportune times. It seems like the thoughts we think, trials we endure, and decisions that need to be made flood our hearts and minds like the waters rushing into a bay, or river on a north east wind.
When the waters pour in, currents and eddys start to form, and everything starts to swirl around in all different directions. Ever feel like that?
Decisions have to be made, because when the waters rise, we have to navigate to safe ground. But in order to do that, we need a compass and a course for direction. But how do I know that my compass is right? I mean after all, I'm putting a lot of faith in a little instrument that seems to spin around whenever I do.
Actually, that's far from the truth. The only thing that is spinning is you and me. The compass is holding true on a certain direction...North. Given that, I can now figure on which way to go.
So when my heart and mind are flooded with everything that's going on in my life, I use the Bible for my compass. I know it's accurate because I can see it's truth in everyday life, and creation. (For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse -Romans 1:20) And I know that if it's true, the promises in it are true, and that it's going to lead me to the direction I need to go in order to find safe ground (For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. -2 Corinthians 1:20-22) The Bible gives us direction in our workmanship (Jobs), our finances, how to choose people for relationships and marriage, and how to take care of all that God has given us including our bodies. It also gives us hope that others don't have concerning the loss of loved ones. (Are any of these things on your mind by any chance?) He promises us that if we do according to His will for our lives, that He will deliver us from the trials now, and still to come, and prevent us from being destroyed. He backs up those promises with signs from above. And with those signs, Christ is always giving us a glimmer of hope to reach for through the flood!
Again, these are just thoughts that the Lord has put on my heart today. If you've come across my Blog while going through something difficult, I hope this entry gives you comfort.
In Christ,
Kevin-
One more note,
I am blessed to have family and close friends who have stood by me no matter how far the distance, who have helped me through recent rising waters in the past few weeks. And I thank every one of them for their love and kindness!!!
