And His children will have a place of refuge. -Proverbs 14:26
Hello everyone,
I've been thinking about shelter a lot here lately. Survival is hard without it. We seek shelter from so many elements like the sun, heat, cold, and rain. Sometimes from hail, wind, waves, and rising tides. Sometimes we use shelter for temporary relief, but mostly for protection.
Along with earthly shelter, I fully believe we need God's shelter as well. I believe our hearts and minds need refuge from the evils that approach us every day. We find that refuge by reading the Bible, and studying it. When we do that, the Holy Spirit raises alarms in our hearts when we're in the presence of evil, whether it be something on television, at the movies, in the presence of foul language, or gossips. He holds us accountable, and I believe that in itself is a form of shelter.
I love the things that the Lord shows me in His creation. A few months ago I took the picture below of these three mushrooms in the yard of my then NC home. Two of them looked like they were being sheltered by the third taller one.
Two are better than one,
Because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.
Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. -Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Christmas is quickly approaching and you'll probably be doing a lot of traveling. When you are outside next, dont forget to enjoy the little details of His creation. Even if it's just in your own backyard!
In Christ,
Kevin-
