While the rain often messes up our outdoor plans, it's actually nourishing the outdoors so that we CAN enjoy creation at different times. Psalm 65:9-13 says this...You visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it; The river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, For so You have prepared it. You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth. You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance. They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, And the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; The valleys also are covered with grain; They shout for joy, they also sing. How often we forget that rain can keep prices on produce in the grocery store down. In a lot of cases, it keeps our gardens watered so that we DON'T have to buy produce at the store.
The rain refills our ponds, and keeps rivers from drying up taking care of the fish. It keeps the ocean from being choked with salt sustaining life in the seas. It causes earthworms to come up out of the ground, feeding the birds, fish, and other animals that enjoy snacking on them! Of course while we're stuck inside staring out the window, or taking a nap, the rain is watering the Earth allowing the plants to give everything oxygen, and without it we wouldn't have the beauty or fragrances of the flowers. Speaking of fragrances, I personally love the smell of an incoming storm, or showers in the woods!
So, I was giving those things a little thought as I myself have been stuck indoors today.
Yes, the rain ruins a lot of our outdoor activities, but without it we wouldn't have much to enjoy outdoors, let alone eat or drink. There's good in everything if we will just take the time to look for it. A friend of mine recently said this..."There is always, always, always something to be thankful for." How true that is especially knowing that Our Lord is upholding everything He created! And many times He's doing it with those rainy days!
God Bless,
